Hiker Rescued at Home Sweet Home Camp in Olympic National Park

A Coast Guard aircrew from Port Angeles Medevacced an injured 17-year-old hiker Saturday after she fell about 100 feet while hiking near the “staircase” of the Home Sweet Home back country camp inside the Olympic National Park.

Home Sweet Home is a well known back country camping spot in the park that is about a 14 mile one way hike in, with a roughly 3300 feet elevation gain.

“The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station / SFO Port Angeles hoisted the hiker and transferred her to Olympic Medical Center personnel,” said a Coast Gurd statement.

“Once on scene, the dolphin helicopter crew landed, the rescue swimmer got out and climb to the hiker. The helicopter crew then lifted back off and lowered the litter to the swimmer, who stayed with the hiker while the crew refueled,” said the statement.

The hiker reported having numbness on her right side and pain in her neck.
